About Me

(for upcoming game information go to the What's New page)

My name is Phil. I have been coaching soccer for 12 years and have recently become a registered refere. The first three years I was head coach for my oldest daughter. When she changed teams, I became the assitant coach. When my second daughter started playing for the Eclipse I was also recruited (forced my way in) to be the assistant coach. I told her coach I would be at every practice so he might as well let me help.

I have helped coach my two oldest daughters on six different teams. Two as head coach, the other four as assistant.

Coaching soccer is an activity I truly enjoy. Since youth teams stop at U-18, this will be our last year as the Eclipse. I will miss coaching the girls very much.

My Coaching Philosophy

(besides "show up for practice")

Attitude and Leadership.

That's about it. If the girls, coaches and I bring positive attitudes and leadership to practice and games, the fun, winning and respect will easily follow.

Soccer is about teamwork. We have no room for arrogance or conceit. We practice as a team, win as a team and lose as a team.

We do, however, have lots of room for leaders. Leadership is not hard to spot. Wanting to be a leader and being a leader are dramatically different.

The team's success is solely based upon each contribution forming a whole. Every girl will have a good game; but only if the other players work toward that goal. I will not allow the team to be infected by an individual's selfish desires. There are many examples in the sporting world to prove that arrogance can rot a team. Lance Armstrong could not have won the Tour de France so many times without the selfless contributions of his teammates.

Last note. The comments above are universal truths that I didn't make up. It's like gravity. You don't have to like it and you can actually make a law against it, but you can't ignore it.
